About this session

Operation of the electric grid requires clear and concise data to always be available. In remote locations such as Alaska, though, cloud tools are not always available due to internet outages. To this end, Homer Electric Association (HEA) has implemented Grafana on premises for custom dashboards for monitoring performance and troubleshooting alarms in its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

In this session, Network and Security Systems Specialist Jess Russell will discuss how HEA uses Grafana to visualize data from its BESS, creating a single pane of glass for operators to monitor the current performance of the system while keeping the format like other systems that they are familiar with. Grafana also allows for more in-depth dashboards that allow for quick verification that setpoints and values are being properly received by the BESS control modules and allows for an easy to access list of alarms. These feature sets allow for quick responses and resolution to issues that can affect the electric grid.
