About this lab
Data sources are a key part of Grafana’s Big Tent, allowing you to connect to and query data no matter where it lives. There are more than 150 data sources available in Grafana’s public catalog – but perhaps you need something customized for your own data. In this hands-on lab, you will delve into the world of Grafana’s extensibility by learning how to create a custom data source plugin.
By the end of the three hours, you will have created a new data source from scratch using Grafana’s developer tools, with an in-depth exploration of these key features:
- Configuring and connecting to a service or API
- Constructing valid queries
- Converting responses into a consistent data format for use with various visualizations
Requirements:
- Linux/MacOS/WSL2
- LTS Node.js
- Go v1.23
- Mage
No prior knowledge of plugins or plugin development is required. A basic understanding of React and Go is beneficial but not essential.
