Monitor Temporal Workflows seamlessly: Introducing the Temporal Cloud integration for Grafana Cloud

Monitor Temporal Workflows seamlessly: Introducing the Temporal Cloud integration for Grafana Cloud

2025-11-24 3 min

Nishad Krishnan is a Software Engineer at Temporal Technologies, where he’s focused on observability and making the “unknown unknowns” slightly less unknown.

At Temporal Technologies, our goal is to make it easier for developers to build and operate reliable, scalable applications without sacrificing productivity. Our platform, Temporal, helps ensure that code runs to completion once started, no matter how long it takes or what failures occur along the way.

Temporal Cloud is the managed version of Temporal, delivering the same reliability and scalability without the operational overhead of managing the core Temporal services and infrastructure.

Today, we’re excited to share a new partnership with Grafana Labs that brings native support for Temporal Cloud metrics into Grafana Cloud. This integration gives teams a simple way to visualize, monitor, and alert on the health of their Temporal Workflows directly within their existing Grafana Cloud dashboards.

Key features of the Temporal Cloud integration for Grafana Cloud

Running Temporal Workflows at scale requires clear insight into executions, Task Queues, and capacity consumption. With the new Temporal Cloud integration for Grafana Cloud, you can get that visibility in minutes — no additional infrastructure needed. Easily visualize Workflow health, monitor Task Queue backlogs, track service latency, and spot hidden bottlenecks, all within Grafana Cloud.

Updated metrics

With this integration, Temporal Cloud customers gain access to an expanded and more accurate metrics suite, now available directly in Grafana Cloud. Highlights include:

  • New dimensions such as temporal_task_queue and temporal_workflow_type for deeper visibility.
  • Improved accuracy across latency percentiles.
  • Enhanced coverage of operational and Workflow performance metrics.

These improvements make it easier to understand how your Temporal workloads behave at scale and to quickly identify trends or bottlenecks.

Effortless observability

A prebuilt dashboard delivers immediate insights into system health, performance, and Workflow efficiency — without custom configuration.

Within minutes, teams can monitor key Temporal Cloud metrics like Task Queue backlogs, capacity usage, and Workflow success rates. The integration provides all the value of a curated monitoring setup while eliminating the need to build dashboards or manage visualization logic from scratch.

Simplified setup

Setup is as simple as adding a Temporal Cloud API key — Grafana Cloud handles the rest. No additional services to run.

Previously, connecting Temporal Cloud to Grafana Cloud required a custom PromQL data source and manual setup of endpoints and TLS certificates. With Temporal Cloud’s new OpenMetrics endpoint, that complexity is gone.

What’s included in the integration?

The Temporal Cloud integration for Grafana Cloud provides:

  • Ready-to-use dashboard for tracking system health and Workflow performance.
  • Granular insights through metrics labeled by Namespace, operation type, Task Queue, and Workflow type.

Together, these deliver a unified, real-time view of how your Workflows and services are operating — across teams, environments, and Namespaces.

Get started today

Setup for the integration takes just a few steps:

  1. Add your Temporal Cloud Metrics Read-Only API key
  2. Set a scrape interval, if needed
  3. Click Save

Metrics will begin flowing within minutes, and your default dashboard will start populating automatically.
