As Grafana Labs continues to grow, we’d like you to get to know the team members who are building the cool stuff you’re using. Check out the latest of our Friday team profiles.

Meet Josue!

Name: Josue Abreu

Josue Abreu
Grafana Labs Backend Engineer Josue Abreu

Current location/time zone: Originally, I’m from the Dominican Republic. But I’m now based in London (GMT/BST).

What do you do at Grafana Labs? I’m a software engineer breaking things as part of the Grafana team. I’m currently part of the team that’s taking care of our Enterprise offering as a backend engineer.

What open source projects do you contribute to? Mostly Grafana. I have contributed to open source projects in the past but nothing worth mentioning.

What are your GitHub and Twitter handles? gotjosh everywhere! GitHub and Twitter.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a big fan of snowboarding; I’m a late bloomer since I learned the sport a couple of years ago, but it’s definitely one of the things I enjoy the most. I used to be a competitive gamer (at TCGs and MOBA) but sadly I don’t have the time anymore – while waiting for the winter, it’s just me watching the true professionals play the game(s).

Do you like to code in silence, with music or ambient noise on your headphones, or with people talking around you? It’s fascinating how much this has shifted for me over the past few years. I couldn’t write a line of code without headphones and music, but these days I prefer absolute silence. It’s a clear indication that I’m getting a bit old!

What’s the last thing you binge-watched? A BBC show called Line of Duty. It was brilliant – in my experience, British shows don’t seem to have the production bells and whistles that American shows have, but they do compensate in writing and acting. I very rarely recommend TV shows, but this is one that’s definitely worth watching. Let me know what you think!
