New Grafana releases to support transition to Azure AD Workload Identity authentication in Microsoft Azure

New Grafana releases to support transition to Azure AD Workload Identity authentication in Microsoft Azure

2023-09-29 1 min

On Sunday, October 1, 2023, Microsoft Azure will sunset Azure Active Directory (AAD) Pod Identity as an authentication mechanism in favor of Azure AD Workload Identity (WI) authentication.

To help with this transition, Grafana Labs partnered with Microsoft to develop and release updates to Grafana that support WI authentication in lieu of Pod Identity authentication. Users who wish to use WI authentication should upgrade to the latest versions of Grafana 10.1, 10.0, or 9.5.

Grafana users who utilize AAD Pod Identity to authenticate Azure resources should migrate to WI authentication to avoid potential faults or issues when attempting to utilize data sources (Azure Monitor and Prometheus) configured with AAD authentication.

Instructions for WI authentication configuration can be found in the Grafana documentation

If you have any questions, please reach out through the Grafana Labs Community Slack or through your regular Grafana support channel.
