Grafana Labs recognized as a leader in the observability space

Grafana Labs recognized as a leader in the observability space

2024-08-20 5 min

Observability has become essential to organizations of all sizes, helping them get deeper, better insights into the infrastructure and applications driving their businesses. Today, millions of users around the world, including more than 5,000 paid customers, rely on the Grafana LGTM Stack (Loki for logs, Grafana for visualization, Tempo for traces, and Mimir for metrics) and Grafana Cloud observability solutions to unify their disparate data sources — a capability that allows them to reduce data center and cloud costs, respond to incidents faster, and improve reliability.

First, we want to thank all those users who long ago took a chance on us. We’ve been a leader in the observability space for almost a decade now, but still — and always will — consider your success to be the ultimate validation of our products.

Second, we’re excited to share that Gartner has also acknowledged our efforts in this space.

Grafana Labs has been named a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Observability Platforms — the latest in a string of acknowledgements that show how our company and our community continue to lead the way in this vital area of modern software development and management.

Grafana continues to lead the way

Torkel Ödegaard started working on Grafana as a side project in late December 2013. It quickly became a leading tool for dashboards and visualizations, and more than 20 million users rely on the open source project today. In the decade since Torkel’s initial code commit, Grafana Labs has also developed the LGTM Stack, which pairs Grafana with scalable backends for logs, metrics, and traces. We’ve also built Grafana Cloud, a fully managed platform that has helped more than 5,000 customers get observability up and running easier and faster.

And all that work is paying off. Here’s a list of some of the other awards and recognitions we’ve received in the past year:

  • We landed in the 23rd spot in Silicon Valley Defense Group’s NATSEC100, an annual ranking of “national security-focused and dual-use startups.”
  • Redpoint included us in its InfraRed 100, an unranked list that honors transformative companies in cloud infrastructure.
  • CRN thought we were so nice they recognized us twice: On its list of 10 coolest open source software tools in 2024 (so far) and on its Big Data 100.
  • Stackshare put Grafana at the top of its list for the best monitoring tools in 2023.
  • On the Forbes Cloud 100 list, which recognizes the best private cloud computing companies, Grafana Labs ranked 23rd in 2024.

And since your success is the best indicator of our success, we also wanted to highlight what some of our users are saying on the Gartner Peer Insights™ platform. As of Aug. 12, 2024, Grafana Labs has an Overall Rating of 4.6 out of 5 in the Observability Platforms market, based on 100 reviews on Gartner Peer Insights™, with 96% recommending our products.

Here are just three examples of what users have to say about why they love our technology:

“Grafana’s solutions continue to amaze us at a technological level. They have solved scaling limitations that many competitors struggle with at a fraction of the cost.” - Software architect in finance

“Grafana Cloud is a must have tool for application monitoring. Once our application is deployed, up and running, the next critical thing is to monitor both application status as well as infrastructure and Grafana is the tool which helps us to identify and address those issues at an early stage before it becomes an escalation.” - Data and analytics lead in healthcare and biotech

“Grafana [Cloud] is able to combine multiple data sources into one place, meaning the developer [needs] to learn a single tool, instead of multiple different tools for metrics, logs and traces.” - SRE
