Create an alert rule contact point

Contact points contain the configuration for sending alert notifications, specifying destinations like email, Slack, IRM, webhooks, and their notification messages.

A contact point is a list of integrations, each sending a message to a specific destination.

Defining an alert rule assumes you have added a contact point. In this milestone, you create a contact point which is then available when you define an alert rule.

To create an alert rule contact point, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to Grafana Cloud.

  2. In the left hand menu, navigate to Alerts & IRM > Alerting > Contact points.

  3. Click Create contact point.

  4. Enter a name and select a type of integration.

    Note

If you’ve never set up a contact point, we recommend that you test the feature by selecting Email and entering your email address.

For more information about contact points, refer to Configure contact points.

  5. To the right of the email address, click Test.

  6. On the Test contact point dialog box, click Send test notification.

A test notification is sent to the email address. Verify that you have received it.

  7. Close the Test contact point dialog box and click Save contact point.

In the next milestone, you’ll begin to create an alert rule.
