Set alert evaluation behavior

The next step of the alert rule creation process requires that you configure the evaluation behavior that determines how often your alert rule is checked and how long conditions must persist before firing an alert.

To set evaluation behavior, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Set evaluation behavior section, select an evaluation group from the dropdown or, if you don’t have one yet you can click + New evaluation group to create a new one.

If you create a new evaluation group, you also need to enter an evaluation interval time to designate how often the alert rules in the evaluation group are evaluated.

  2. Set the Evaluation interval to determine how often the alert rule is evaluated.

For example, set the interval to 1m for critical metrics or 5m for less urgent monitoring.

  3. Configure the Pending period to specify how long conditions must be met before the alert fires.

For example, set the pending period to 2m to avoid alerts from brief spikes or select None for immediate alerting on critical issues.

  4. Configure the Keep firing for period to specify how long the alert will continue to show up as firing even though the threshold condition is no longer breached.

For this example, set the Keep firing for period to None.

In the next milestone, you learn how to configure notification settings.
