Name your alert and define the alert rule

In this milestone you can begin to configure the essential elements of your alert rule including the name, query conditions, and threshold values. These settings determine when your alert fires and how it’s identified in your alerting system.

To name your alert and define the alert rule, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Alert rule name field, enter a descriptive name for your alert.

  2. Review the query that was imported from your dashboard panel in the Query section.

The query should already be configured with your data source and metric. You can modify the query if needed to refine the alert conditions.

  3. In the Conditions section, configure the threshold for your alert.

For example, set the condition to IS ABOVE 1.85 if you want to alert when CPU usage exceeds 80%.

  4. Configure additional query conditions if you need to create more complex alert logic.

You can add multiple queries and conditions to create sophisticated alert rules that consider multiple metrics or data sources.

In the next milestone, you learn how to add the alert rule to a folder and add labels.
