Dashboards and views settings
The Configure dashboards and view settings page provides a centralized place to customize how you monitor and analyze each cloud provider service. You can add links to custom dashboards and configure which metrics appear in your drilldown metrics views.
Before you begin
- Ensure you have the appropriate permissions to view and edit configuration settings
- Set up monitoring for your cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Access Configure dashboards and view settings
The Configure dashboards and view settings page displays quick links and customization options for the Cloud Provider service you select.
To access the Configure dashboards and view settings page:
- Open your Grafana Cloud portal.
- Expand Observability > Cloud Provider in the main menu of your Grafana Cloud stack.
- Select your cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Click the Services tab.
- In the Services table, click the Configure button of any service (for example, AWS EC2).
You can also access the Configure dashboards and view settings page by clicking the Configure button on the KPI drawer in the Knowledge graph for Cloud Provider entities.
After you have opened the Configure dashboards and view settings page, you can begin configuring quick links or drilldown metrics views.
Quick links
At the top of the Configure dashboards and view settings page, you’ll find up to three quick links:
- Preconfigured dashboard: Opens the out-of-the-box dashboard for this service, if one exists. If no preconfigured dashboard is available, this section displays “No preconfigured dashboard for this service.”
- Custom dashboard: Opens your selected default custom dashboard. You can add and manage custom dashboards from your Grafana stack. If you haven’t added a custom dashboard, this section displays “No custom dashboards configured”.
- Explore drilldown metrics: Clicking the View Metrics button opens the Drilldown metrics app, where you can explore metrics for all instances of this service without writing PromQL queries.
Manage custom dashboard links
Add links to custom dashboards from your Grafana stack and select one as the default.
The default dashboard becomes the dashboard the service name links to from the Services page. If there is a preconfigured dashboard that is already linked to the service name, the default dashboard replaces that link. If there is not a preconfigured dashboard for that service, then the service name becomes a link to the default dashboard.
The default dashboard also becomes the view that displays for the KPI drawer in the Knowledge graph for Cloud Provider entities, if you add a custom dashboard and set it as the default instead of the preconfigured dashboard.
This customization gives your team fast access to service-specific dashboards tailored to your monitoring needs.
For more information on how to manage custom dashboard links, refer to Customize service dashboards.
Manage drilldown metrics views
Configure which metrics appear on the drilldown instance view for a service, their panel title and display order, the queries in the panel, legend, aggregation, and the units shown. These customizations apply when you select an instance on the preconfigured dashboard pages.
If you keep the preconfigured dashboard as the default dashboard, the service includes a drilldown instance view, and you have customized the drilldown instance view, your customized drilldown instance view displays for the KPI drawer in the Knowledge graph for Cloud Provider entities.
For more information on how to manage drilldown metric views, refer to Customize drilldown metrics.
