Find dashboards and panels

This guide helps you locate the dashboards or panels you need using the Assistant’s search tools. It is useful when you inherit an environment, join an incident midstream, or simply cannot remember where a visualization lives.

What you’ll achieve

Describe the dashboard or panel you need with tags, metrics, or query snippets.
Receive a curated list of matches with titles, folders, and direct URLs.
Jump straight into edit or view mode and share the link with teammates.

Before you begin

Search criteria: Tags, dashboard names, metric names, or panel descriptions.
Access rights: You can view the dashboards you are asking for.

Describe what you need

Explain the dashboards or panels you are looking for with tags, metrics, or snippets so the Assistant can target the right assets.

Ask for dashboards by purpose or tag. Include known titles, tags, or example metrics so the Assistant narrows the search quickly.

Find dashboards tagged production that include checkout metrics.

Request panel-level details when you know the metric or query but not the dashboard location.

Locate panels that query rate(http_requests_total[5m]) and share the dashboard links.

Jump to the matching dashboards

Open the suggested dashboards or panels directly from chat so you can inspect, favorite, or share them immediately.

The Assistant returns a list of dashboards with titles, folders, and URLs.
Ask it to open a specific dashboard or panel:

Open the dashboard with UID nErxdC and switch to edit mode.

Use follow-up prompts to add the dashboard to your favorites or share the link with teammates.

Document what you found

Save the search results as notes or comparisons so teammates know where to look next time.

Request a summary of the dashboards so you can copy it into runbooks.
Ask the Assistant to compare dashboards if multiple match your criteria, for example, Compare the checkout and cart dashboards.
Start a fresh conversation when you pivot to a completely different area of Grafana so earlier search context does not influence the next request.

You now have a shortlist of dashboards or panels with shareable links, plus optional summaries you can drop into tickets, runbooks, or chat updates.

Troubleshooting

No dashboards returned: broaden the search or remove conflicting filters.
Incorrect results: specify folder, tag, or metric names more precisely.
Lack of access: ensure your Grafana role includes view rights for the target dashboards.
