Install and add the GitHub data source

The GitHub data source is not installed by default. In this milestone, you search for the data source and install it in your Grafana Cloud instance.

The GitHub data source is available in the Grafana plugin catalog and can be installed directly from the Grafana Cloud interface. Once installed, it provides the necessary components to connect to the GitHub API and retrieve repository metrics.

To install the GitHub data source, complete the following steps:
  1. Navigate to Administration > Plugins and data > Plugins.
  2. In the Search field, enter GitHub to filter the available plugins.
  3. Locate the GitHub data source plugin and click on it to view the plugin details.
  4. Click Install to add the GitHub data source to your Grafana Cloud instance.

    Wait for the installation to complete. The status will change from “Installing” to “Installed”.

  5. Navigate to Connections > Data sources.
  6. Click Add new data source in the upper right of the page.
  7. In the search field, enter GitHub to filter the available data source types.
  8. Click GitHub to select the GitHub data source and begin configuration.
