Add the Prometheus data source
In this milestone, you add the Prometheus data source and give it a name.
Grafana provides built-in support for a Prometheus data source.
To add the Prometheus data source, complete the following steps:
- In the Grafana side menu, click Connections > Data sources.
- Click Add new data source.
- Select Prometheus from the list of data sources.
In the Name field, enter a descriptive name for your data source.
For example:
My Prometheus Server
💡 Did you know? The name of the data source is displayed on dashboard panels, so it’s important to choose a meaningful name.
You may see a validation message about the URL field — don’t worry! In the next milestone, you’ll enter the Prometheus server URL.
