Add the MySQL data source

Grafana provides built-in support for MySQL databases. In this milestone, you add the MySQL data source and give it a descriptive name.

To add the MySQL data source, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your Grafana Cloud environment, for example mystack.grafana.net.

  2. On the Grafana Cloud home page, open the navigation menu on the left side of the screen and click Connections.

  3. In the Connections page, click Data sources.

  4. Click Add new data source.

  5. In the Search field, enter MySQL.

  6. From the search results, click MySQL.

  7. In the Name field, enter a descriptive name for your MySQL data source.

For example, enter Production MySQL Database.

Did you know?

The name of the data source is displayed on dashboard panels, so it’s important to choose a meaningful name. If there are multiple data sources for a dashboard panel, the default toggle determines which data source appears by default.

In the next milestone, you’ll configure the connection details and authentication credentials for your MySQL server.
