Configure Grafana Alloy to use the macOS integration

After you’ve installed Grafana Alloy, the next step is to configure it for the macOS integration. This configuration process requires you to copy a code snippet from Grafana Cloud and add it to the Alloy configuration file.

Did you know?

By default, the integration only collects the metrics and logs necessary to populate the macOS dashboards and alerts. Although you have the option to configure Alloy to collect all available metrics and logs, we recommend starting with the default configuration.

To configure Alloy to use the macOS integration:

  1. In Grafana Cloud, under the 3. Make configuration selections section, click Make optional selections.

  2. Ensure that the Simple set-up option is checked.

  3. On your macOS machine, run the following command to open the Alloy configuration file:

    nano $(brew --prefix)/etc/alloy/config.alloy
  4. Back in Grafana Cloud, scroll down to the 4. Prepare your configuration file section and copy the generated Alloy configuration snippets to the clipboard.

  5. On your macOS machine, scroll to the end of the configuration file and paste the configuration snippets you copied from Grafana Cloud.

  6. Press Ctrl+O to write the changes to the file.

  7. Press Enter to save the changes.

  8. Press Ctrl+X to exit the editor.

In the next step of your journey, you’ll restart Alloy and test the connection.
