Add logs to a dashboard
Once you’ve refined a useful log query, you can save it to a dashboard panel for ongoing monitoring. Dashboard log panels let you keep an eye on specific log patterns, share views with your team, and correlate logs with other metrics on the same dashboard.
In this milestone, you’ll add your Elasticsearch log query to a Grafana dashboard.
To add your log query to a dashboard, complete the following steps:
In the Explore interface, ensure you have a log query that returns the results you want to monitor.
Click Add to dashboard in the upper right area of the Explore toolbar.
In the dialog that appears, choose one of the following:
- Open in new tab to create a new dashboard with this panel
- Add to existing dashboard to select an existing dashboard
If adding to an existing dashboard, search for and select the target dashboard.
For example, select
Application Monitoringor another relevant dashboard.Click Open dashboard to view your new log panel.
(Optional) Resize and position the log panel on the dashboard.
Click Save dashboard (disk icon) to save your changes.
Enter a description for your changes and click Save.
Your dashboard displays a log panel showing Elasticsearch log entries with your saved query, and the panel updates automatically based on the dashboard time range.
In your final milestone, you’ll review what you’ve accomplished and explore next steps.
