Create and assign the env attribute

In this milestone, you create the env attribute that identifies the deployment environment. This attribute enables environment-specific configuration management and prevents accidental changes to production systems by allowing you to target configuration updates to specific environments.

To create and assign the environment attribute, complete the following steps:

1. Repeat Milestone 3.

   1. On the Inventory tab, select collectors that are deployed in the same environment.
   2. Click the Edit remote attributes button.

2. In the Bulk edit remote attributes box, select Add remote attributes.

3. In the Key field, type env and press Enter.

4. In the Value field, type a deployment environment and press Enter. For example, enter prod.

5. Click Apply changes.

6. Repeat this milestone until all collectors have been categorized by environment.

After you apply the final changes, return to the Inventory tab to view all the new remote attributes that categorize your fleet: team, service.name, and env.

These attributes provide a comprehensive categorization profile that tells you who owns the collector, which service it monitors, and where it runs.
