Understand your Grafana Assistant invoice

Grafana Assistant and Grafana Assistant Investigations are billed separately based on usage.

Grafana Assistant

Grafana Assistant is billed based on monthly active users. This billing is independent from other Grafana Cloud features.

Assistant active usage definition

An active Assistant user is a user who performs any of the following actions during the billing month:

  • Sends a message to Assistant
  • Uses an Explain feature, for example, Explain this panel
  • Uses another Assistant feature

Grafana Labs employees who access your stack for support purposes do not count as active users.

Assistant fair usage policy

Grafana Assistant includes a fair usage allowance of 2,000 messages per active user each calendar month. This is a soft limit. If you exceed this allowance, you do not lose access, but Grafana Labs may contact you to discuss your usage.

Monitor usage

You can track your consumption in the Usage Analytics dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Assistant > Usage.
  2. Review the number of active users, messages, and investigations.
  3. Use the time range picker to analyze trends over the last 7, 30, or 90 days.

To control costs, you can set a monthly limit on the number of unique users. In the Usage dashboard, click Limits to configure a cap.

Billing calculations

Billing is based on usage, determined by the number of active users and investigations.

Assistant:

Total Cost = (Number of Active Users) * (Price per Active User)

Volume discounts

Volume discounts are available for contracted accounts on a per product basis.
