Cost Attribution for Synthetic Monitoring: Track spend by team, cost center, or other dimensions
Synthetic Monitoring usage is now included in Grafana Cloud Cost Attribution, as part of the Cost Management and Billing App. You can attribute the cost of your checks to whatever dimensions matter to your organization: teams, cost centers, business units, services, or even your own customers. Every check execution can be tied to a cost attribution label, so teams running chargeback or showback can see exactly who is driving usage, spot outliers, and allocate costs with confidence.
If you already label your checks consistently, you may be nearly done. During the preview, many customers with an established label strategy reached full attribution coverage the moment they configured their keys, because their checks already carried the labels they attribute by.
How it works
Admins can choose existing label keys, or create new ones to use for cost attribution in Synthetic Monitoring. Once configured, you can set values for those labels on each check, whether you create checks in the UI, the API, or Terraform. The UI surfaces the configured labels when you create or edit a check and warns you when a check has none set.
Usage from labeled checks flows into your cost attribution reports alongside your other Grafana Cloud products. Checks without labels are grouped under a “missing” value, so all of your Synthetic Monitoring spend stays accounted for even before you finish labeling.
Get started
Ask your Grafana Cloud admin to choose your cost attribution label keys, then add values to your checks from the check editor. To learn more, refer to the Synthetic Monitoring cost attribution documentation.
