The dashboard provides an overview of the power usage of the Central Processor Complex (CPC) as well as the power usage apportioned to the z/VM Logical Partition (LPAR).

The z/VM power usage is further broken down into portions used for processing, for I/O, and for memory.

The total z/VM power usage is also broken down by workload type. For the Linux portion of the workload, an additional breakdown by guest is provided. These z/VM power metrics are also shown in time-series charts to visualize trends and patterns. The breakdown by workload type and guest is based on relative usage of CPU capacity.

In addition to the current power usage, the energy consumption over the past 24 hours is also provided. This is shown for the entire z/VM system as well as by Linux guest. A detailed description is provided as Dashboard for z/VM Energy Consumption.

Note: The power usage metrics are provided by z/VM when running on z17 hardware and appropriate service has been installed. For z/VM 7.4 the APARs VM66824 and VM66826 apply, for z/VM 7.3 the APARs are VM66823 and VM66825. When provided by the z/VM monitor, the metrics are extracted with the default configuration of the z/VM Performance Data Pump.
