Kubernetes App Metrics

After selecting your namespace and container you get a wealth of metrics like request rate, error rate, response times, pod count, cpu and memory usage. You can view cpu and memory usage in a variety of ways, compared to the limit, compared to the request, per pod, average per pod, etc.

  • In Kubernetes 1.16 metrics labels like pod_name and container_name was removed. Instead of that you need to use pod and container. You can verify it here. Any Prometheus queries that match pod_name and container_name labels (e.g. cadvisor or kubelet probe metrics) must be updated to use pod and container instead

  • good view of the container-centric metric. If we are using any sidecar proxy along with our container in the pod, then this view gives good insight about only my containers.
