Planet, the pioneering Earth observation company, aims to image the Earth daily to make global changes visible, accessible, and actionable. In years past, Planet faced the common challenge of managing logs and metrics with disparate tools like Splunk, SignalFx, and Stackdriver, while also juggling a massive Kubernetes footprint, all hosted across a hybrid cloud and on-premises environment. Change was needed, but was it build or buy? Cloud or self-hosted? Join Staff Software Engineer Jacob Straszynski as he walks through Planet’s path to Grafana Cloud and a centralized, fully managed observability stack built on Mimir for metrics, Tempo for traces, and Loki for logs. You will also hear about the team’s future plans for adopting Pyroscope for profiles and Grafana Cloud solutions for IRM and performance testing.
