Best practices for faster insights from your metrics, logs, traces, and profiles

Currently a Principal Engineer at Grafana, he is the creator of Tempo, a Jaeger maintainer, and has contributed to the OpenTelemetry Collector, Loki and Cortex. When he’s not at the keyboard or wrangling kids, Joe likes to get out on his bike.

At Shopify, he led the complete in-house rebuild of the observability stack, significantly improving system visibility and resilience across thousands of services, processing billions of events and over 100 GB of data per second. He now leads jobs, caching, search, and ClickHouse infrastructure in addition to observability.

      Ryan is an Indiana native who made the transition from business to coding after working in corporate jobs. After completing a coding bootcamp, they moved to Oakland, CA, and have since worked at startups, co-founded an OSS startup (Pyroscope), and successfully merged it with Grafana Phlare. In their free time, they enjoy basketball, video games (especially Smash Bros!), cooking, and indulging in some guilty pleasure reality TV.
