Save the Tempo data source and test the connection to confirm Grafana can reach your Tempo backend.

Save and test the connection

When you save the data source, Grafana issues a test query to Tempo using the URL and credentials you configured. A success message confirms that Grafana can reach your Tempo backend and that authentication is working.

To save and test the connection, complete the following step:

  1. Click Save & test.

    When successful, a green banner confirms the connection. If the test fails, Grafana shows an error describing the problem — for example, an unreachable URL, an invalid token, or a missing tenant header.

In the next milestone, you verify that trace data flows through to Explore.
