Add a new Tempo data source in Grafana Cloud and give it a descriptive name.

Add the Tempo data source

Grafana provides built-in support for Tempo. In this milestone, you navigate to Connections, search for Tempo, and give your new data source a descriptive name.

To add the Tempo data source, complete the following steps:

  1. In the navigation menu, click Connections > Data sources.

  2. Click Add new data source.

  3. In the Filter by name or type field, enter Tempo.

  4. From the search results, click Tempo.

  5. At the top of the page, next to the data source name, click the edit (pencil) icon and enter a descriptive name for your Tempo data source.

    For example, enter Production Tempo.

    Did you know? The name of the data source is displayed on dashboard panels and in the data source picker in Explore, so it’s important to choose a meaningful name.

In the next milestone, you configure the connection URL for your Tempo backend.
