# Enter Infinity data source authentication credentials

Every time Grafana Cloud queries the Infinity data source, the security settings you have configured for that data source dictate whether the query can successfully execute and retrieve data from the endpoint. Watch video ->

The Infinity data source supports a variety of authentication methods. In this milestone, you configure basic authentication. For more information about other supported methods of authentication, refer to [Authentication](/docs/plugins/yesoreyeram-infinity-datasource/latest/setup/authentication/).

> Authentication is set up on the endpoint server during its initial configuration, so you’ll need to know which type of authentication the endpoint uses and have the corresponding credentials.

If you’ve configured the Infinity endpoint to require authentication, complete the following steps:

1. On the data source left navigation, click **Authentication**.
2. Select the authentication method you want to configure.

 For example: **Basic authentication**.
3. For basic authentication, enter the username and password.

In the next step of your journey, you’ll test the connection to the JSON endpoint.
