Set up billing and usage alerts
Cost management is essential for sustainable observability operations. Grafana Cloud provides usage and cost alerts that notify you when consumption approaches or exceeds predefined thresholds, helping prevent unexpected charges and enabling proactive budget management.
You create these alerts in the Usage Alerts tab of the Cost Management and Billing app. To create alerts, you need the permissions granted by the Usage alerts admin role.

In this section, you’ll open the alert builder, choose what to monitor, set a budget, and pick where Grafana sends the notification.
Pop this guide out into a floating window so it stays visible when the Create alert menu opens.
Go to the Usage Alerts tab of the Cost Management and Billing app.
Click + Create alert to open the alert builder.
Select All Products for a monthly organization spend alert, or pick Metrics, Logs, or Traces for a product-specific alert.
Enter your monthly budget in US dollars (USD), for example
1000.If a Contact point field is shown, scroll to it and choose where Grafana sends the notification. If you don’t have one yet, use View or create contact points to set one up.
Review your settings, then click Create alerts to save.

To review or change an alert later, return to the Usage Alerts tab and select it.
