# Open the New alert rule page

A clear, descriptive name is the first thing responders see when an alert fires. A good name tells them immediately what’s wrong without opening the alert details.

In this milestone, you’ll open the **New alert rule** page and name your rule.

1. In the left navigation menu, click **Alerting** > **Alert rules**.
2. On the **Alert rules** page, click **+ New alert rule**.
3. On the **New alert rule** page, in the **Name** field, enter a clear name that helps responders triage alerts quickly.

**QuickPizza server errors** is filled in for you.

Your rule has a clear name. In the next milestone, you build the query that defines what the alert monitors.
