Prerequisites

Before you begin

Before you design your labeling strategy, ensure that you have:

  • A Grafana Cloud account. To create an account, refer to Grafana Cloud. A stack that’s already receiving metrics and logs shows richer data in the hands-on interactive guides.
  • The permissions granted by the Billing and usage reader role, including cardinality read access. Refer to Manage access to the Cost Management and Billing app.
  • Basic familiarity with metrics and logs concepts.

Script

Before diving in, take a moment to check three things.

First, you need a Grafana Cloud account. Any account works, but a stack that’s already receiving metrics and logs will show much richer data in the hands-on interactive guides.

Second, make sure you have the permissions granted by the billing and usage reader role, which includes the cardinality read access used later in this journey.

Finally, this journey assumes basic familiarity with metrics and logs concepts. If those terms feel comfortable, you’re ready to go.
