# Prometheus remote write

Prometheus `remote_write` forwards scraped samples to a remote storage endpoint. To store those samples in Grafana Cloud Metrics, add a `remote_write` block to your Prometheus configuration with your Grafana Cloud Metrics endpoint and credentials.

## Considerations

- You add a `remote_write` block to the Prometheus configuration.
- Grafana Cloud Metrics does not accept Prometheus’s separate push gateway. It receives samples through `remote_write`.
- You get the `/api/prom/push` URL, username, and password from the **Hosted Prometheus metrics** page under **Connections** in your stack, which also creates the token for you. The same values are on the Prometheus card in the Cloud Portal.
