After you install

You’ve chosen an integration and used its learning path to install Grafana Alloy and start collecting data. This section covers what an install adds:

Dashboards: Where they live and how to navigate them
Default alert rules: What comes with the integration and where to find it

What installing an integration adds

When you install an integration, Grafana Cloud sets up three things for that technology:

Alloy configuration: Preconfigured snippets that set up data collection
Dashboard folder: Prebuilt dashboards for the integration
Alert rules: Default alert rules grouped in their own namespace

It uninstalls cleanly

An integration’s dashboards and alert rules live in their own folder and namespace. When you uninstall the integration, Grafana Cloud removes them cleanly, including any custom dashboards and alerts you saved in those default locations. To keep your own work, save it in a separate folder so it persists.

After Alloy starts collecting and sending data, your prebuilt dashboards are ready in Grafana Cloud.

Open a dashboard

Find your integration’s dashboards in three steps:

Click Dashboards in the main menu.
Open the integration’s folder. For example, the Linux server integration creates a Linux Node folder.
Select a dashboard to open it. For example, Nodes is a good starting dashboard for the Linux server integration.

Read what you see

A dashboard is empty until the first scrape, then the panels fill in. The scrape interval (the time between each collection), determines how soon data appears.

Time range: Sets the window of data shown, such as the last hour.
Refresh: Reruns the queries to pull the latest data.
Variables: Filter the dashboard, for example by instance

Default alert rules from integrations

Most integrations come with default alert rules based on common failure conditions. You get useful alerting without writing rules yourself.

Find your alert rules

Locate the rules an integration created in three steps:

Go to Alerts & IRM > Alerting > Alert rules.
Find the integration’s alert rule namespace. Each integration’s rules are grouped under their own namespace.
Open a rule to see its condition and thresholds.

Notifications are a separate step

Default rules define when something is wrong, not who gets told. To receive notifications, set up contact points and notification policies in Alerts & IRM. That setup isn’t included with the integration. To learn how, refer to the Grafana Alerting documentation.
