Journey overview

Review your outcomes

Use this journey to build a foundation for setup, navigation, querying, dashboarding, and guided learning with Assistant.

  • Enable Grafana Assistant in Grafana Cloud or connect it to a self-managed Grafana deployment.
  • Navigate Grafana resources using natural language, without browsing folders.
  • Generate and explain queries for metrics, logs, traces, and other data sources.
  • Create and edit dashboards without writing queries from scratch.
  • Use Learn mode to get guided observability lessons tailored to your environment.

Identify the audience

This journey is for users who want to work with Grafana through natural-language prompts.

  • Developers who want to query observability data and build dashboards without memorizing PromQL or LogQL.
  • SREs and platform engineers who need fast access to dashboards and data during incidents.
  • Anyone new to Grafana who wants a conversational way to explore their observability stack.

Welcome to Introduction to Grafana Assistant. This guide is for developers, SREs, and platform engineers who want to use Grafana without memorizing query languages or spending hours browsing dashboards.

You leave with four concrete outcomes. First, you understand what Grafana Assistant is, where you can run it, and how it keeps your data secure. Second, you can enable Assistant in Grafana Cloud or connect it to a self-managed Grafana deployment. Third, you can use Assistant to find dashboards, query your metrics, logs, traces, and other data, and create or edit dashboards using plain language. Fourth, you know how Learn mode works and when to use it.

This journey covers three sections. The introduction explains what Assistant is, covers the two deployment models, and gives you the privacy and security fundamentals. The get-started section walks you through enabling Assistant in Grafana Cloud or connecting it from a self-managed instance, and introduces Learn mode. The use-Assistant section shows you how to navigate Grafana resources, query your data, manage dashboards, and find next steps.

Plan about thirty to forty minutes of hands-on time depending on your setup.
