About this course

In this course, you’ll learn to explore metrics and logs using Grafana Drilldown apps. These are visual exploration tools that let you investigate infrastructure data without writing queries.

This is a Level 1 infrastructure observability course. It focuses on metrics and logs because those signals are typically available immediately in most environments. Traces and profiles require application instrumentation and will be covered in a separate Level 2 course.

Who this course is for

  • Engineers who have metrics or logs accessible in Grafana
  • Anyone who wants to explore infrastructure data without learning query languages
  • Teams investigating infrastructure health issues visually

What you’ll learn

ModuleSkills
Metrics DrilldownNavigate metrics, filter by labels, identify patterns, add to dashboards
Logs DrilldownSearch logs, filter by fields, find errors, add to dashboards

What you’ll do

This is a hands-on course. You’ll complete two learning paths in sequence:

  1. Explore data using Metrics Drilldown: Navigate and investigate infrastructure metrics visually
  2. Explore logs using Logs Drilldown: Filter and analyze logs without writing queries

Course duration

25-30 minutes

Script

Exploring data shouldn’t require knowing query languages. That’s what Grafana Drilldown apps are for.

In this course, you’ll learn to explore metrics and logs visually, without writing PromQL or LogQL. You’ll use Grafana Metrics Drilldown to investigate infrastructure metrics and Grafana Logs Drilldown to filter and analyze logs. All through a point-and-click interface.

This is a Level 1 infrastructure observability course. It focuses on metrics and logs because those are the signals that most teams have available immediately. Traces and profiles require application instrumentation and come later in your observability journey. We’ll cover those in a separate Level 2 course.

By the end, you’ll know how to find anomalies, identify patterns, and add your findings directly to dashboards.
