Knowledge graph pricing

The knowledge graph has no pricing model of its own. It’s unlocked through Application Observability and Kubernetes Monitoring, so you’re billed through those products’ host hours pricing. Activating it generates additional metrics, which are billed as part of your regular metrics usage.

How the knowledge graph is billed

Two charges apply, and neither is specific to the knowledge graph:

Host hours from the product that unlocked it. Application Observability bills host hours. Kubernetes Monitoring bills host hours and container hours.
Metrics for the series the knowledge graph generates, at standard Grafana Cloud Metrics rates.

How usage is calculated

Activating the knowledge graph adds an incremental storage cost of 5% to 10% for the metrics it generates. In practice, it typically adds 5% to 10% more active series on top of what you were already sending.

Your host hour charges don’t change when you activate it. Access is granted on activation for existing Application Observability and Kubernetes Monitoring users, and new users get it activated by default depending on their stack.

Special considerations

What happens to your bill depends on what you turn off:

Deactivating only the knowledge graph has a limited cost impact, because the base observability products stay active and continue accruing host hours.
Deactivating the base products produces the largest change, because host hours or container hours stop accumulating.

View your usage

The knowledge graph doesn’t appear as its own line item. Review the host hours and metrics of the product that unlocked it.

In your Grafana Cloud stack, go to Cost Management and Billing > Usage.
Under Product Breakdown, select Application Observability or the Kubernetes options.
