Respond to alert groups in the Grafana mobile app
Respond to Grafana IRM alert groups from your phone. Check the details, take action, and bring in a teammate when you need help.
Alert groups appear in the app when Grafana IRM is turned on under Settings > Products. Refer to Choose which products you see.
On Home, the My alert groups section shows your most recent firing alert groups. For a full list, tap Browse > Alert groups and select the Mine tab.
Note
To be notified of new alert groups on your phone, add push notifications to your notification rules. Refer to Configure push notifications.
View alert group details and timeline
Tap an alert group tile to open its detail screen, which has two tabs:
- Details: alert metadata, Participants, any related incidents, and the Latest alert payload. Tap View JSON to see the full alert payload as JSON.
- Timeline: a chronological record of notifications and status changes for the alert group.
To see the escalation chain assigned to the alert group, tap the Assigned escalation chain row on Details. This opens a snapshot of the chain’s steps as they were when the alert group was created, not a live log of who’s been notified. For that, check the Timeline tab.
Acknowledge, silence, and resolve alert groups
Take action on an IRM alert group from its tile on Home or Browse, from its detail screen, or from the More menu, the three-dot icon.
- Acknowledge: stop further escalation and mark the alert group as being worked on. Tap Acknowledge on a tile, on the detail screen, or from the More menu.
- Unacknowledge: return an acknowledged alert group to a firing state and restart escalation. Open the detail screen, tap More, then tap Unacknowledge.
- Silence: pause notifications and escalation for a set period. Open the detail screen, tap More, tap Silence, then choose a duration. To remove a silence, tap More again and tap Unsilence.
- Resolve: mark the underlying issue as addressed. Tap Resolve on a tile, on the detail screen, or from the More menu. If your organization requires a resolution note, add one when prompted. To reopen a resolved alert group, tap Unresolve on its detail screen.
Tip
For a firing alert group, you can also tap Acknowledge or Silence for 30 minutes directly on the push notification, without opening the app. Refer to Configure push notifications.
Invite and remove participants
To bring in a teammate to help with an alert group:
- Open the alert group and go to the Participants section under Details.
- Tap + Invite and select a participant.
- Choose a notification type, then tap Invite.
To remove a participant, tap their name in the Participants section and tap Remove user.
Start a new escalation
If you spot an issue that needs another team’s attention, start a new escalation to create an alert group manually:
- On Home, tap + in the top right corner and select New escalation.
- Fill in a description, invite participants from teams or users, and tap Confirm.
Perform bulk actions
To act on multiple alert groups at once, tap Browse > Alert groups, then tap the selection icon in the app bar. Select the alert groups you want, then use the bottom action bar to Acknowledge or Resolve, or tap More for Silence and Restart.
Declare an incident from an alert group
If an alert group needs more focused attention, declare an incident from it:
- Open the alert group, or open its More menu.
- Tap Declare incident.
- Complete the form, then tap Create.
Refer to Declare and respond to incidents for details.
Get help from Assistant
On the alert group detail screen, tap the Assistant icon in the bottom-right corner to open Grafana Assistant. The alert group comes with you as context, including its title, status, and how many alerts it contains, so you can ask about it without repeating the details.
The icon appears only when Assistant is available for your organization and turned on under Settings > Products. Refer to Choose which products you see.
Refer to Assistant on mobile to learn what Assistant can and can’t do on mobile.
Next steps
- Refer to Manage schedules and shifts.
- Refer to Declare and respond to incidents.
