Sampling techniques for the OpenTelemetry Collector
Sampling is a means to reduce the cost of processing and storing large volumes of data, for example, a service with 100 reqs/sec and a sample rate of 10% will send 10 spans/sec. Sampled data does not provide a complete picture of system, but can be useful to understand service dependencies aggregated performance and health metrics. There are two sampling strategies to follow:
