Grafana Cloud

Logs pricing

Grafana Cloud Logs bills on the volume of data you send and keep, measured in gigabytes. Logs is the only signal that also bills on query volume, and only above a generous fair use allowance.

For current rates, refer to the pricing page.

How Logs is billed

Four dimensions make up your logs bill:

GBs processed
Incurred when Grafana Cloud receives and optimizes the logs you send. This is measured before any Adaptive Telemetry optimization.
GBs written
The total gigabytes written to Grafana Cloud each month. If you use Adaptive Telemetry to drop data you don’t need, only the resulting useful data is written and billed. A free allotment of 50 GB applies before written volume is charged.
GBs retained
How long your logs are kept in Grafana Cloud, billed per gigabyte for each additional retention increment beyond the minimum.
GBs queried
The gigabytes queried beyond the fair use ratio. Most customers never reach this.

Definitions

Processed vs written: Processed volume is what arrives. Written volume is what’s stored after optimization. Dropping data with Adaptive Telemetry reduces written volume but not processed volume.

Fair use query ratio: Logs pricing lets you query up to 100 times your written logs volume each month at no extra charge.

How usage is calculated

Your bill is determined by the gigabytes processed, written, and retained per month, the number of months of retention, and any queried volume above the fair use ratio.

Billable queried volume is calculated per stack:

text
logs billable queried gb = queried gb - (written gb * fair use query ratio)

Special considerations

Retention

The minimum retention period is 14 days for free accounts and 30 days for paid accounts. Retaining data beyond 30 days is charged per gigabyte for each additional 30-day increment.

Retention is customizable per stack, or per individual stream within a stack. To customize it, contact Support.

Note

Retention period changes aren’t retroactive. After you increase retention, telemetry is stored under the new period, but data already outside the old retention period isn’t recovered.

View your usage

  1. In your Grafana Cloud stack, go to Cost Management and Billing > Usage.
  2. Under Product Breakdown, select Logs.
