# Boost services

Boosting temporarily increases the profiling sample rate for a specific service to 100% for a limited time to collect high-resolution performance data exactly when it matters, whether during change, incident, or optimization.

It then automatically returns to cost-efficient sampling when you’re done.

Boosting services is performed intelligently by Adaptive Telemetry during times of need, and can also be performed manually. You can boost services from **Adaptive Profiles** > **Boosted services** or directly from **Drilldown** when you’re investigating a specific service.

## How it works

- Scope: The boost applies to a single service.
- Duration: When manually boosting a service, you choose a time window (for example, 30m or 2h). The service returns to its baseline sampling rate when the time expires.
- Sampling effect: During the boost, Adaptive Profiles collects every profile event from the selected service.
- Cost: Because sampling increases, boosts may temporarily raise usage and cost.

## Boost a service

To boost a service, complete the following steps.

1. Navigate to **Adaptive Profiles** > **Boosted services**.
2. Click **+ Boost service**.
3. Enter the following.

 - Service name: choose the service to boost.
 - Duration: enter a time window (for example, 30m, or 1h, or 2h30m).
4. Click **Start**.

The service appears in the list view with the sampling rate and status (countdown timer).

When the timer ends, the service automatically returns to its adaptive sampling rate.

> You can also boost services from **Drilldown**.
