# Adaptive Metrics

Adaptive Metrics is a metrics management and cardinality optimization feature in Grafana Cloud that enables you to identify and eliminate unused time series data through aggregation.

## Overview

Grafana Adaptive Metrics helps you take control of your growing metric volume and associated costs in Grafana Cloud.

By analyzing how your metrics are being used across dashboards, alerts, recording rules and queries, it provides recommendations for aggregating underutilized metrics into lower-cardinality versions. It then continuously reanalyzes your usage, updating its recommendations to reflect changes in your observability needs.

## Why use Adaptive Metrics?

- Get automatic recommendations based on how you actually use your metrics in Grafana, helping you identify and reduce unused data.
- Apply, remove, or adjust rules with ease through an interactive interface or automate with the API within your existing processes.
- Your existing dashboards, alerts, and queries continue to work seamlessly with the aggregated metrics, requiring no manual updates.
