Documentation for automated readers
A curated documentation index is available at: https://grafana.com/llms.txt
A complete documentation index is available at: https://grafana.com/llms-full.txt
These indexes can help with page discovery before fetching individual documents.
This page is also available in Markdown, which may be easier for automated readers and AI tools to parse than HTML. The Markdown version is available at https://grafana.com/docs/agent/next/flow/concepts/config-language/files.md, or by sending Accept: text/markdown to https://grafana.com/docs/agent/next/flow/concepts/config-language/files/. For broader documentation discovery, the curated index is available at https://grafana.com/llms.txt and the complete index is available at https://grafana.com/llms-full.txt.
Caution
Grafana Agent has reached End-of-Life (EOL) on November 1, 2025. Agent is no longer receiving vendor support and will no longer receive security or bug fixes. Current users of Agent Static mode, Agent Flow mode, and Agent Operator should proceed with migrating to Grafana Alloy. If you have already migrated to Alloy, no further action is required. Read more about why we recommend migrating to Grafana Alloy.
This is documentation for the next version of Grafana Agent Documentation. For the latest stable release, go to the latest version.
Files
River files are plain text files with the .river file extension.
You can refer to each River file as a “configuration file” or a “River configuration.”
River files must be UTF-8 encoded and can contain Unicode characters. River files can use Unix-style line endings (LF) and Windows-style line endings (CRLF), but formatters may replace all line endings with Unix-style ones.
