Meet the Grafana Labs Team: Björn “Beorn” Rabenstein

As Grafana Labs continues to grow, we’d like you to get to know the team members who are building the cool stuff you’re using. Check out the latest of our Friday team profiles.

Meet Björn!

Name: Björn “Beorn” Rabenstein

Björn “Beorn” Rabenstein
Grafana Labs Principal Software Engineer Björn “Beorn” Rabenstein

Current location/time zone: I’m in Berlin, Germany. For no good reason, the time zone here changes twice a year between CET and CEST. (I am (in)famous for not observing so-called “daylight saving time,” which is neither daylight-saving nor a time.)

What do you do at Grafana Labs? I’m mostly working on Prometheus. This involves contributing externally to the Prometheus project. But I’m also some kind of custodian and consultant for the internal usage of Prometheus.

What open source projects do you contribute to? The vast majority of my open-source contributions are for Prometheus. I’m neither the first nor the most active contributor, but I score pretty highly in both categories.

What are your GitHub and Twitter handles? beorn7 on GitHub. What is Twitter? :o)

What do you like to do in your free time? I have way too many hobbies, but the most important one is boardgames.

Do you like to code in silence, with music or ambient noise on your headphones, or with people talking around you? I prefer silence, but I’m pretty good at ignoring noise around me. That includes any noise coming from headphones, which would be wasted on me. I really like music, but when I listen to it, it’s like watching a movie or reading a book. I couldn’t code at the same time.

Spaces or tabs? I’m happily delegating this decision to go fmt.
