Jacopo Aguzzi

Jacopo Aguzzi is a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC, Barcelona), specialized in deep-sea ecology, marine robotics, and digital-twin-enabled environmental monitoring. His research focuses on developing and integrating intelligent observing systems such as cabled observatories, autonomous landers, and AUV/ROV platforms, for the continuous assessment of marine ecosystem dynamics and restoration outcomes. Over the past two decades, he has coordinated and contributed to numerous EU-funded projects (including DIGI4ECO, SUN-BIO, MERLIN, and REDRESS) aimed at advancing technological infrastructures for biodiversity monitoring and aligning them with European policies such as the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the EU Restoration Regulation, and Mission Ocean and Waters. Jacopo has authored over 190 peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters, and his work has been instrumental in establishing links between ecological science, artificial intelligence, and blue-economy innovation.
